How to Apply

Click the button above and fill out a short online form to apply. The application has three components:

  • General applicant information
  • Career interests and motivations, including two short answer essay questions
  • A resume or CV (uploaded as a PDF)

Once you begin the application, you will not be able to exit and return to it again. Please preview the application before you begin, have your materials ready, and set aside about 30 minutes to complete the application. 


Eligibility

  • Both international and domestic trainees are eligible and welcome to apply.
  • Postdocs: UCSF postdocs must have a postdoc title code at the time of application.
  • Students: UCSF graduate students must have passed their qualifying exams by the time the program begins and be in good academic standing. Students from all PhD programs are eligible to apply.* Students from UCSF Masters programs who think the material may be relevant to them are welcome to inquire about eligibility at [email protected]

*The MIND program was originally developed for UCSF biomedical scientists. However, we welcome trainees from other fields and encourage them to apply. The program instructors include staff with PhDs from a variety of fields, including the humanities and social sciences. 


Program Dates and Requirements (2022)

2022 Class and Peer Team meetings were scheduled for Fridays, 12-2 p.m., from August through December 2022.

  • Early Fall 2022: Class
    • Graduate students must enroll in the 2-unit Pass/No Pass course "Graduate Studies 213."  All participants must commit to completing the class.
    • Successfully completing the class requires completion of 3-5 hours of homework between course dates; an experiential learning capstone project; and attendance at all classes (or make-up work for classes you are not able to attend).
    • Required class sessions: August 6, August 20, September 3, September 17, October 1, October 15.
    • Optional class sessions will be offered on some alternate Fridays. 
  • Late Fall 2022: Peer Teams
    • Participation in bi-weekly peer team meetings, of 90 minutes per meeting, through the fall quarter 
    • Conducting a minimum of 3 informational interviews or job shadows, and sharing the information you gathered with your peer teams and MIND cohort.
    • Peer team meetings: October 22, November 5, November 19, December 3, December 17.
  • Beyond: Availability for longitudinal surveys about experiences with the program, and career outcomes
